I am looking for advice on upgrading my free Zonealarm package.
Should I stay with Zonealarm and go for the Pro version or should I use another product. So what's your best choice of firewall. I have Mcafee antivirus also but may consider changing that if there any bundled packages. Cheers Allen Allen |

You could do a lot worse than try Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 : http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-en-win.exe It doesn't use a lot of resources, is very easy to get to grips with, and is very powerful IMO. Oh, and it's free. Cordially, Kleeb. |

Unfortunately it is a bit like asking what colour to paint your bedroom, everyone has a different idea. There were some where the advice was to steer clear for logical rather than emotional reasons. I have (I think!) settled on Sygate firewall (free) which looks fine and am running the trial of NOD31 anti-virus, which I am almost certain I will buy. Just try a range, many are free and the rest usually give you a month or so free trial. -- Please do not reply by Email, as all emails to this address are automatically deleted. |

The two overall best imho are symantec's Norton suite and the suite from Pandasoftware.com Both are stable & offer daily updates. Panda is a better choice if you seek something that goes more easy on the resources. Panda offers also a good & rapid support. Panda avir & Symantec also make a good combination. Used it for years. Now using Norton on my new P4, while Pandasuite on my old PC. If you stick to old warrior McAfee, you can stick to Zonelabs as well. NO need to go to the professional version. besides antivirus,.. also invest some time in anti spyware, browserprotection & system cleaning. That soft is even mostly free. If you're running Windows XP, upgrade to SP2, and you get a decent one for
free! Otherwise, consider Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall, or Security Suite. ZoneAlarm is not what it used to be. In article <1aKdnTHATNjQ27TcRVn->,
says... > If you're running Windows XP, upgrade to SP2, and you get a decent one for > free! Otherwise, consider Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall, or Security > Suite. ZoneAlarm is not what it used to be. SP2 can't hold a candle to Zone Alarm, let alone Zone Alamr Pro. -- -- (Remove 999 to reply to me) |

The problem is hardware firewalls ie.. PIX are expensive. I personally like sygate personal firewall pro. It's fairly easy to use and it actually leaves room for "advanced customization". Another option would be getting a cheap computer and running softwall ie.. just use that computer as a firewall. Which is actually a fairly secure solution. I also believe that softwall is free. |

I wasn't implying it did. I said SP2's firewall is "decent", and "free".
Then I suggested Norton Personal Firewall. Zone Alarm can't hold a candle to the latest version of Norton's firewall. Zone Alarm has fallen behind.
