I have a quick question about F-Secure. I haven't used this particular virus
detection program, but heard that it is a very good one. I just installed the program, and now it seems that my computer has slowed down to a crawl. Before installing it, I did a check on the processes running, and it was nice and clean... after installing it I have about a dozen processes running, many of which appear to me to be some sort of spyware or tracking software, such as Backweb IAdHide.. not to mention at least a dozen processes running that start with the FS* Is this normal behaviour for F-Secure? I've heard that F-Secure doesn't have any kind of spyware or anything, but looking at my Task Manager, it sure does seem to have A LOT of stuff running... and that Backweb thing REALLY worries me... -- Windows XP - A 64 bit upgrade to a 32-bit patch for a 16-bit GUI shell running on top of an 8-bit operating system written for a 4-bit processor by a 2-bit company who cannot stand 1 bit of competition. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- John Vogel |

It runs a bunch of stuff alright, but I haven't seen it
drag any of our systems down. We don't run Backweb because our updates come from a local server. There are configs that can really take a bite out of access time if they are enabled .. esp involving cdroms and zip drives. Also, on boot up, it is going to phone home for updates. That is slow sometimes .. up to a minute, but then it gets happy and things speed up. One thing for sure .. don't ever mess with trying to uninstall it. It burrows deep, and that can make a big mess. You should probably email their tech support about speed problems. johns johns |

F-Secure uses Backweb to deliver virus definition updates, program updates and subscription management depending on which of their products you're using.
