I've just backed up my evidence logs by moving them from my development
server to my workstation (and onto CD)... when I moved the files over,
Norton found 5 instances of code red infections. I'm running Kaspersky on
the server and it didn't detect the infections.

Since the dev server isn't used for surfing or mailing (or anything other
than serving web pages)... how can it get infected?

For those of us with routers on our home LANs, adding ports 135-137 and 445
to the private port range should ensure that no packets with those source
port numbers *leave* your network either.

When I added the filters to my router, I was "magically" able to view the
other hosts on my LAN.
