I'm running a cable connection at 100Mbs....just recently my connection has
'apparently' dropped to that of an old dial up connection, giving me 30Kbs if i'm lucky. I checked the lan connection, it appears as tho everything is alright there, i have also checked other computers on the network and they seem fine, so it leads me to believe that i have some sort of adware/virus on my system. I just ran spybot again, it came up with a couple things, but didn't solve the problem. I run AVG and Norton on my system and they found nothing either. Perhaps i'm just missing something simple, but if anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated, this one has me stumped. Thanks. ~Senturon Senturon |

HJT complements SSD, but looks in a different way for crapware on your system. 1) Install and run HijackThis. Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the HJT Log. 2) Have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the following forums (and post it, or a link to your forum post, here): <http://forums.net-integration.net/> <http://forums.spywareinfo.com/> <http://forums.tomcoyote.org/> <http://www.wilderssecurity.com/> Also, try a system evaluation: http://www.pcpitstop.com/default.asp And please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address mining viruses. It doesn't have to be your system that is blasting the network and dragging it down. > I just ran spybot again, it came up with a couple things, but > didn't solve the problem. It never does. Spybot can't detect the original dropper, nor does it look for viruses, worms, trojans, etc ... Neither does AdAware. > I run AVG and Norton on my system Legal and updated? Or, typical, 2 years out of date. > Perhaps i'm just missing something simple, You are. You don't have an uptodate AV program, and your security people are not enforcing it. You are probably not patched at all, and possibly, your system has been hacked by off-shore mp3'ers, and you are running an ftp-server pushing music files. When the lawyers walk in with a "cease and desist" don't be surprised. Unhide all your files, and do a search on *.mp3. If you find anything suspicious, pull your network cable, and back up your working files. Reformat and re-install from scratch. THEN .. under those conditions, you are now very popular around the world, and the mp3ers are going to keep trying to get back in to your system .. stay off line until you are totally patched ( buy a cd from MS ) and have an uptodate AV program installed. Plan on being down about a month. johns johns |

Are you only getting 30kbps total, or is that all that's left over? Do you use a software firewall? If so, many of them can show you what programs or services are connected and their throughput. If nothing is filling your data pipe, then there may be some issue like a driver conflict or configuration oversight on your computer. Try diabling the most recently installed program and see if your throughput improves. N1POP |
