Hello.. Have Norton 2002 and retrieved updates on May-12th via LiveUpdate. Since then.. through today that is.. Firewall is behaving VERY badly. It often prompts for a Comm Access that NO REPLY will satisfy. Eventually a reboot is needed to straighten out. Anyone having this issue? what can be done? -Mike mike@mechanic.com |

Now, when I try to run LIve Update for NAV, it says it can't access the internet, error LU 1814. I followed every single step on the knowledge base with no success. As soon as I turn off the NIS, live update works fine for both NAV and Winfax Pro. The worst part is the Norton is no longer supporting 2002. Louise Louise |

So then I bought 2004 - AND - still the same error. Not only that, but it takes 11 minutes to boot while running NIS or the newer version, and 3-4 minutes to boot without it. I think this is called "bloatware" to say the least. I suspect it has seometing to do with the new program security protection. Well, I've left Symantec's "protection". Have you looked at Sygate? They have a free version for home use and a more "sophisticated" version, with support, for $40. I installed it and so far, I'm quite happy. Another option I tried, and liked, is ZoneAlarm. It keeps a little icon on the taskbar that shows activity and I found it so distracting, that I uninstalled the program and am now using Sygate. But you might look at both of them. Louise Louise |

Like a redirector confusion that repeatedly asks to grant permission.. and then a `memory error' is generated in trying to write the `rules table'. It ultimately has to be rebooted or worse a bluescreen results. This is most annoying as you can understand. -Mike >As soon as I turn off the NIS, live update works fine for both NAV and >Winfax Pro. > >The worst part is the Norton is no longer supporting 2002. > >Louise mike@mechanic.com |

Would like to give Sygate a run next.. yep. -Mike mike@mechanic.com |

Update on Sygate. I find it works very well. The icon on the taskbar is much less distracting and can be completely removed from the taskbar should you want to. But the most outstanding thing for me is that my whole machine is faster. I think NIS was really slowing things down. Which one have you decided to go with? Louise Louise |

It appears that Symantec may now have fixed this problem. See
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...2609~mode=flat , which apparently came out late on Friday evening. Have any of the NIS/NPF 2002 users that experienced the problem after the 12 May LiveUpdate applied this patch; does it solve the problem? Next question: Does this fix, primarily for NIS/NPF 2002 users, still provide a solution to the eEYE vulnerabilities that started all this? (Anyone checked using eEYE's Retina scanner?) And finally, by way of feedback, just what files are changed by this update? Joseph V. Morris |

I ended up installing the free version of Sygate and have been quite happy so far. Louise Louise |
