I'm running Linux SuSe on the 2nd HD, and I'm concerned about security and
anti virus provision. Is there a web page as useful as "Sponge's" that covers the security issue under Linux. I have searched "Google" but without a lot of luck. Also, what about "Spyware" under Linux? With Windows XP I run "Adaware" very regularly. TIA - - To reply please remove the obvious. You might want to try F-PROT. I know that they provide a free Linux version. It's pretty good. The only drawback I could see at the time was that it doesn't scan in .tar archives. I guess there's plenty of other AV vendors for Linux, but when I dabbled, this was the first free one I came across, and it worked very well so I stuck with that. http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/linux/ Regs, Pete. However in terms of general security do a Google on these intrusion detectors; 1) tripwire 2) chkrootkit And make sure you are running a properly configured firewall. Look at "guarddog" for an easy to use GUI front end to iptables. Regards Gordon Gordon Darling |

> I'm running Linux Well I sympathize with you. You are going to try something ... like update a video driver, and Linux is going to crash .. as usual .. and take all your data with it no matter what you do. I wouldn't get too concerned about viruses considering that Linux is now totally unsupported and on its way out bigtime. The update sites are all dead ... no security patches. Why bother? Linux is worse than a virus. Nobody is writing a thing for it anymore. johns johns |

Use WebAdmin www.webadmin.com to give you a central point for most config changes, firewall etc. Anti-Virus try amavisd and clamav Check http://www.linuxsecurity.com/ Frank this_is _not_a_genuine@addy.com |

In article <>, this_is
_ says... > Linux if you KNOW WHAT your doing, is far more secure than windows. That is 100% false - Windows 2000/XP can be as secure as any version of Linux "if you know what you are doing". By default neither Linux or Windows 2000/XP are secure and can easily be compromised when no properly secured. -- -- (Remove 999 to reply to me) Leythos |
