Call them and ask who to talk/send info to. Send harcopy with something like To: IT Computer DEPT manager or: Presedent Reason: You systems sending out viruse email. > There is a random single line message which is I assume the viruses > doing. As the senders address is real how are they getting my address in the > first place? Maybe you know someone who knows someone at the business. Viruses read peoples address books to get other email address. Others malware can read usenet looking for email address. Bit Twister |

The return address is often taken randomly from an Address Book on the
infected computer, you may be getting the e-mail from someone you know (you are in their Address Book) who has those companies in their Address Book. Have you looked at the headers to get the sender's IP? -- ************************************************ g-w "Col" <> wrote in message news:f1K%b.222$vY.165@newsfe1-win... > Hi all, Im in the UK and i`m getting the netsky.b virus sent to me from UK > bussines email addresses that are real and contactable, but I know nobody at > these companys. > > There is a random single line message which is I assume the viruses > doing. As the senders address is real how are they getting my address in the > first place? > and how can I stop this? > > Thanks > Col. > > kulm_nd |

<>, whilst in the alt.computer.security newsfroup, articulated the following sentiments : >Maybe you know someone who knows someone at the business. >Viruses read peoples address books to get other email address. >Others malware can read usenet looking for email address. My wife got sent one the other day. Purportedly from a hotmail address, but after checking the headers, I found it more likely it was from a dial-up NTL address in the Manchester region of England. Only 3 people knew her address. But a relative insists on sending mail to us with everyone else's email address all in the TO: field. I'm guessing that whoever it is that sent the mail, is infected themselves and didn't even know they'd sent it. Regs, Pete. Gladys Pump |
