There certainly were a lot of changes and variations;

Pulling out my old thinkpad which has Win/98
Version 4-10-98 on it it does have IPCONFIG in there

In some ways I like the way it used to work that if you
changed anything it re-installed all the IP support stuff
as when these get mangled is now harder to get rid of
the corrupted stuff.

Win/98 is fast becoming history.

I already said that, more politely, learn to read before you post
and as you have nothing original to say, shut the **** up.

I should have said W98 first edition, I don't remember second edition
(meaning if you could do both)

it could also be just an old hp jetdirect box that got plugged into the
network again.

the fact that this keeps recuring and no one on the other side is
complaining about service outage on their end, makes me think it's a
network device or maybe the ip got included into an ip pool by mistake.

in either case. unless you want to learn something new, just hand it over
to the admins.

i said it first dumb**** yankee nazi.

you posted this

The IP address just allows you to use the network, your mail
and access to any web pages you own are protected by
a userid and password.

Look at your settings and see if you have an IP address
permenantly set in the machine or if its allocated by a
server. Either way its not a big deal, talk to whoever
manages the network.

that is because the DHCP server has given you a lease.
do ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew from the command prompt.

Because the stupid software run by my ISP removes posts if it thinks
there is too much quoted material (ie material with > at the head of the
line)
If you have a better suggestion, would be glad to hear it.

Interstingly enough I had one last week where IPCONFIG ran normally
but WINIPCFG said there was no network card because the driver
was missconfigured. So they look at things differently. Beware!

You really are an idiot. Firstly I'm not American and secondly
without them liberating your country you might now be a Nazi.

I see that they have euthanasia in Holland, please take advantage
of it.
