A friend has downloaded AVG free antivirus software in an effort to get rid
of the swen worm. She already had a Norton antivirus which apparently needed to be paid for to be updated. Now practically everything is inaccessable except the internet and My Documents (Outlook Express not accessible). Straight after installation the AVG Resident Shield came up with AVG Resident Shield Virus Identified I-worm Swen.A is found in file C:\Windows\NNDI.EXE Enable access? Yes No Heal A - always disable access When any of these instructions are clicked there is a sign Access to the specified device, path or file is denied. This also comes up just about every time you want to do anything at all. You cannot uninstal either because the same message appears. Is there any alternative to formatting and reinstalling? Yes, we know now NOT to install a virus protection product when there is already another. Any suggestions very gratefully accepted. Regards, Lois. L & D |

Dear Sue, Thanks very much for your help. I tried the
Control/Alt/Delete but there is nothing there to do with Norton. I'm glad you mentioned the Rescue Disk - I remember when I put my own AVG on this computer I made one but Sharon says she wasn't given the opportunity to make one - straight away the message came from AVG Resident Shield as below. Most AV vendors have one and they can be found using google, etc. Here is the link from Symantec http:// Also a quick check of google, etc turned up nothing about NNDI.EXE why don't you boot to DOS and rename this file (NNDI.OLD) to overcome the immediate problem with AVG Resident Shield intercepting it. Alternately, boot to safe mode and try to disable AVG Resident Shield, and then try disinfecting the PC with a specific Swen removal tool. |

hi there, I am interested to find out what happened to your problem, were you able to heal the infected file? I suggest you triedto creat a rescue disk using AVG, you would need severel floppy disks to make this. Then reboot your computer using the said disk and you can start scanning your drive, finally you could probably heal the infected file. BTW, i am using AVG and so far its doing great...... Dear Trog Dog,
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately we didn't have the courage (or the knowledge) to tackle it ourselves and couldn't find else to - so had to do it the expensive way. All the best, Lois. Heya,
You don't specify what OS u use. If your're using 98, you can simply restart in MS-DOS mode, and type DEL C:\Windows\NNDI.EXE "Sue Doo Nym" <> wrote in message news: ... > In article <6Qawb.5$>, The Absolutely Amazing > says... > > A friend has downloaded AVG free antivirus software in an effort to get rid > > of the swen worm.
