> Windoze with a version of Linux, would virus activity go down substantially ALL activity would go down substantially. We did that here in a test lab to evaluate the possibility of switching over. Not one computer in the lab survived beyond about 2 months before Linux corrupted its file system and would not boot or rebuild. The installs were a nightmare, as drivers for hardware were poor at best. I actually found it to be a nice hobby .. searching for better Linux drivers ... changing out decent video cards for 2 meggers ... trying to get Linux to quit dismounting floppy drives ... trying to get it to see zip drives. Forget CDR, DVD ... on and on this stupid crap went. Nothing intuitive. Sure it was techie. I even got the thrill of the faggy talk with the ( youknowwho ) majors, who can't give a straight answer to a simple question because Linux is all about STUDENT POWER rumble, rumble, rumble ... reminded me of when I was in the 6th grade and the girls would look at me and start whispering and giggling. I got over that. johns ( registered XP user ) johns |

I got over that. Which distro John ? What hardware were you trying to install this mystery distro on ? Forget CDR and DVD ? Burning a CD using the command line here was actually quicker than using Nero on Windows. Zip drive here is working well, no computer science degree involved in getting that to work. Linux, student power ? Pfft. Installs are straightforward and intuitive. Some distros are so easy you just can't go wrong, unless your hardware is set up wrong maybe ? Oh dear John. Bit FUDdy don't you think ? I hate to say it John, but I think that whispering and giggling is starting all over again. Regards, Pete. Transmute |
