Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER, EQUINOX:
CRITERION COLLECTION, A FINE MADNESS, THE HILLS HAVE EYES (2006), INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU, KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG: COSMIC CANINE (VOLUME ONE), NEWSRADIO: THE COMPLETE FOURTH SEASON, PETULIA, THE PINK PANTHER, THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN, THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER, REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER, A SHOT IN THE DARK, TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER, WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION, and WHEN STAND UP STOOD OUT: CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 65/100): "Hey! At least this isn't Adam Arkin pretending to actually be Inspector Clouseau, or that smarmy Steve Martin as Clouseau remake The Pink Panther. It gets points for originality, and just about nothing else as Blake Edwards tries to spawn a whole new franchise and fails miserably." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/cursepinkpanther.php EQUINOX: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 91/100): "Even for those less than awed with the quality of Equinox, what really makes this set an impressive achievement is the breadth of the extras that truly catalog each aspect of the film's tumultuous history." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/equinox.php A FINE MADNESS (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 70/100): "Throughout the film, Samson is -- let's face it -- a jerk. So why is his wife so devoted to him, and why do women everywhere get all turned on just by being in the same room with him? Oh, that's right, it's because he's Sean Connery." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/finemadness.php THE HILLS HAVE EYES (2006) (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 90/100): "Still the question remains, are the new tweaks enough to transcend Craven's concepts or is it just another example of a revisit for no good reason? It turns out to be a very interesting enigma." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/hillshaveeyes2006.php INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall score 78/100): "There are some good scenes, like a car chase in which both Clouseau and his quarry are stumped by roadside obstacles, but there's little of the inventiveness that Sellers and Edwards brought to the character. Instead, Inspector Clouseau becomes a Sixties pastiche." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/inspectorclouseau.php KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG: COSMIC CANINE (VOLUME ONE) (reviewed by Neal Masri, overall score 83/100): "Krypto the Superdog is a light-hearted and kid friendly introduction to the Superman universe." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/kr...perdogvol1.php NEWSRADIO: THE COMPLETE FOURTH SEASON (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 90/100): " NewsRadio was one of the best sitcoms of the 1990s." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/newsradioseason4.php PETULIA (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 92/100): "This is not a movie that gives up all of its secrets with a single viewing. That it is so dense and layered that it demands to be seen again is high praise. That I am anxious to see it again is even higher praise." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/petulia.php THE PINK PANTHER (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall score 86/100): "The Pink Panther is a sometimes dated 1960s bedroom farce that, had Ustinov stayed on board, probably would have faded quickly, except for the image of Claudia Cardinale on a tiger-skin rug and some remnants of Henry Mancini's excellent musical score floating in the backs of minds and beautiful music stations' playlists." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/pinkpanther.php THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 85/100): "It's obvious right from the start that Edwards has a firm understanding of the widescreen image. He might be more famous as a comedy filmmaker than a visual stylist, but in this film he fills the 2.35:1 screen nicely, with an attention to detail not seen in a lot of today's more sloppily made Hollywood comedies." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/pi...rikesagain.php THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 86/100): "This was an important collaboration for both men, so treating them like a G-rated tie-in to the horribly lame Steve Martin remake hitting store shelves is an outrage. The movie -- and the men who made it -- definitely deserve better." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/returnpinkpanther.php REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall score 81/100): "Without a doubt, it seems that Writer-Director Blake Edwards is guilty of stretching the gag and, when that happens in a comedic series, the joke can only elicit a half-hearted chuckle on the second or third go-round." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/re...inkpanther.php A SHOT IN THE DARK (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall score 84/100): "I watched this one and Pink Panther together and found Shot in the Dark the funnier of the pair, quite possibly (although I'd need some re- viewing to be sure) the best of a favorite funny series." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/shotindark.php TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER (reviewed by Eric Profancik, overall score 60/100): "Talk about the ultimate milking of a franchise. Your star has passed on yet you make new a movie 'starring' him. Not once but twice! Amazing. And George Lucas thinks we're still a ways off from creating digital actors." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/trailpinkpanther.php WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (reviewed by Brendan Babish, overall score 93/100): "After recently watching Gilbert Grape with a friend, she sat in stunned silence for a few minutes after it was over. She then whispered, sort of awed, 'I never knew Leonardo DiCaprio could act.'" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gilbertgrapese.php WHEN STAND UP STOOD OUT (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 70/100): "The film does an OK job of chronicling the Boston 'scene' of the late 1970s and early 1980s -- as well as the standup boom of the same era -- but it never provides any context."
