oes VLAN not act as a real network ?
You say "no response from 192.168.40", but you have no 192.168.40 subnet,
so it looks like that might be a typo for 192.168.10.40 .
If so then you are trying to ping the 192.168.10.40 PIX interface from
a different network. The PIX does not allow you to ping any
PIX interface other than the "closest".
