My Thunderbird (1.5.0.4) suddenly has lost track of which messages it
has already downloaded from the POP server. That is, every "fetch new
message" cycle loads all messages that have not been deleted from the
server. I wind up with multiple copies of the same message in my Inbox.

Where does Thunderbird store the flag that it has already retrieved the
message? Is there a sort of "retrieve" map? Can it be reset /
resynchonized?

Resolved. Turn out that popstate.dat was missing from the profile.
Re-created the profile and all is well.
