Computer Security - IE address box search

Default IE address box search

Internet Explorer allows you to configure the address box (whatever it is
called where you type the URL) so that you can type keywords to do a search
through your favorite search engine (Yahoo, Google, etc).

What I've noticed, though, is that no matter what search engine you setup
IE *always* connects to Microsoft first before passing the info on to the
search engine.

Why? Is MS tracking search engine queries? Is there a way to turn this
off?

Use Mozilla instead, or block the M$ IP Address it connects to, or
better yet, do both.

Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab> Search From Address Bar has all the
configurable options. I just turned it off and set my homepage to Google.
Google knows all!
