Sweet. I've never bothered with Beta testing before, but some of this new stuff is pretty exciting. Been wanting to kick the tyres on Vista for ages. But probably more important to me right now, is Virtual Server. I'll drop it on the box tonight. will probably feedback later. Thanks Gorm -- LoopBack |

Beta 2 My guess is that the most important news for many MCSE's, which isn't that visible in the press-releases I've seen, is Windows Server "Core"-mode: a stripped-down version of the new server (less to worry about). (I'm not MCSE myself, neither do I have ANY of the exams towards it, so I don't know if I am allowed to guess) "Core" (for us not needing underware) (x86 in vitual server) When I logged on to the new os (installed as core) I got two cmd-windows and no explorer. I guess "PowerShell" will be coming in time, replacing one of the cmd's... maybe on the first sp? I SO want to write a minimalistic shell on this thing..... Can't play more with this thing, have other work and an exam coming up. Damn it! This thing is SOON running my search-server. MS: please give me a go-live, TAP, semi-TAP, exception-TAP,... silent consent that I may deploy my hardcore webservices server (HTTP.SYS or WSK / nothing or SQL) on this thing. Please. I'll sign anything. and yeah: task manager shows 29 processes including the two cmd's and task manager itself, Commit Charge 146MB. Seems to mke 256MB will be fine with this thing. Why? because of virtualization, of course, you could have many many many many servers on the same machine. \ dir *.exe /s gives 587 files (netsh, net, taskmgr, defrag and logoff are all there) GOT to stop, can't afford to play more with this now. Damn it! |

This sounds interesting. but I really need to see it for myself (I guess). > I SO want to write a minimalistic shell on this thing..... Please. I'll sign anything. Just do it, then ask for forgivness. Half the religeous community take that approach. Do you see God sueing them? > and yeah: > task manager shows 29 processes including the two cmd's and task manager > itself, Commit Charge 146MB. Seems to mke 256MB will be fine with this > thing. As cool as virtualisation is, one phrase keeps comming back to me: "dont keep all your eggs in one basket" Have had virtualisation working on some Open Source stuff, cant wait to give virtualisation a go on MS. > \ dir *.exe /s gives 587 files (netsh, net, taskmgr, defrag and logoff are > all there) Cool. So I'll recognise some stuff. phew! > GOT to stop, can't afford to play more with this now. Damn it! Aparrently time isn't constant, so if you can figure out how to fly really fast around the world, you might have time to play with this. But then, we dont have anything fast enough. dam it. -- LoopBack |
