Hello,
I have a question regarding home networks, cables, cards and the like. Currently we are connected with a broadband cable modem hooked to a d-link router with 2 computers on the network. The first one is connected through regular ethernet, as it is in my siste's room and the other computer is mine, maybe 60-70 feet away from the bedroom. My connection is fine, I have had no wireless connectivity problems, but I have been thinking of purchasing another (older) computer to run a server of sorts. On to my question: Since this new(old) computer will cost me $50 for the whole setup and wireless cards cost JUST as much, is there any way I can hook this new computer up to the network through my computer (the one w/wireless card). Both computers have ethernet cards (mine does and wireless, wireless being pci connected and LAN onboard), can I just run a crossover cable from mine to this new one? If I could have it just connected wired, I would of. So any other options? My last resort would be spending $50 on a wireless card just to hook up a $50 system. If that IS my only option, then I just wont do it. Thanks! Nick G. iceflash03@yahoo.com |

That would be way too much unnecessary work. Connect the new-old computer to the router by ethernet. Set up file-sharing on it and all your computers will be able to use it. I'm assuming you don't want to run cabling to the new/old PC? If not, then
you should be able to set up ICS on the Windows XP system, then connect the two together. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics "" wrote: > Hello, > I have a question regarding home networks, cables, cards and the like. > > Currently we are connected with a broadband cable modem hooked to a > d-link router with 2 computers on the network.
