Reading COM port - Attaching an event or interrupt for arrival of new data?

Instead of polling the read function connected to a COM port to see
if new data has arrived it would be nice to get an event (interrupt)
when new data arrives.

Is this possible?

COM ports and interrupt events are not topical in this newsgroup, since they
are not part of the standard C++ language. You'll need to ask in a
newsgroup that addresses your particular platform (such as a windows
newsgroup).
