Default x64 shutdown issues

Yes. I've seen all the shutdown postings. Can't find a fix though.
I have XP Pro x64 [trial edition] and have found that my pc hangs 1 out of
every 3 or 4 shutdowns. It saves . . . then goes to the Windows is Shutting
Down screen. Then 5 or 6 minutes later, I come back into the room and hold
the power btn for 4 secs.
I have disabled the windows sounds, can't find anything in the event viewer,
have the latest BIOS and drivers, have had the issue since clean install.
I have noticed that I don't have a 'APM' tab in the power options window.
Don't realy know why. Never looked for it before.
And felt left down when I asked MS for help and was told that they don't
support trial editions.
Gee what's the point of a trial if not to try?
Anyway, if anyone has other suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it.

You should ask this in the 64 bit newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general

OK. Silly question. This posting is in the 64 bit newgroup. Isn't it?
That's what I see at the top of the page.

Nope. If there was a problem with the web based groups, its appears they
have fixed it now. Check the other messages and see if they are about
certification or 64 bit. If you are still having problems best suggestion is
to use a poper newsreader and the MS website.
