Default Message:Page has timed out

I have a HP Pavilion thet is running Windows 98 and a BB cable connection
with Comcast. When I try to access many web pages, for example Comcast home
page, Netscape Home Page, Internet Explorer Home page, and photo files on any
sites. Also my computer runs extremely slow. I have used 60% of the disk
space, and I have a registry cleaner and spyware remover. When I dry to
defrag , it will run for awhile then stop, and start over. Eventually I get a
message that says scan disk has started and stopped 10x , please close down
other applications. So, going to hte task bar, I close everything I can
possible close except explorer and it still can't defrag. Can anyone give me
an idea on what do to?
