Excel for Mac X won't open a log file

I need to input data onto excel spreadsheet that is emailed to me monthly.
The file works fine ona Windows computer but on my Mac I get the following
messages.

Prepare log file. Could not open a log file.
Followed by;
Error:Could not set the RowSource properly. Invalid property.

As I get sent this file every month it is driving me crazy not being able to
input data from my own computer. Help MUCH APPRECIATED.
