what subnet calculation to use for 70-216?

Cisco and Microsoft do not use the same formula to calculate the number
of possible subnets:

Microsoft: Number of subnets: 2^number-of-subnet-bits

Cisco: Number of subnets: 2^number-of-subnet-bits - 2

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q164015
supports this claim but the study guides do not. Not sure which one to
use for the exam

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
you should look at the question carefully before answering.

Microsoft: Number of subnets: 2^number-of-subnet-bits
This is the number of subnets that are created.

Cisco: Number of subnets: 2^number-of-subnet-bits - 2
This is the number of subnets you can use to connect devices.

So it depends on what is asked..
