Microsoft Certification - Wierd reboot = no harddrive

After a defrag the system defaulted to DOS mode and asked for a reboot disk
to be inserted into the A drive. Started to reboot then showed no hard disk
found prompt. Retruned to DOS c: prompt. Closed down. Any suggestions.
