I was reading an article that talks about the falling value of
certification. http://www.itworldcanada.com/Pages/D...=idgml-1bc0592 1-74db-4e23&Portal=IT%20Workplace&s=229625 This article talks about types of ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals) certifications. I had a look at www.iccp.org and I like the sounds of it because to get certified you have a combination of education and experience. However, I've never seen it come up in job postings. Anyone out there ever considered or hold these certifications? Are they of any value? T-Bone MCNGP XL T-Bone |

CCP is the most valuable cert I hold. (IMHO) The test were
tough but straight forward no drag and drop and scratching your head trying to figure out what they want you to do. Also the questions are more 'theoretical' definately not for the novice. The CCP was more popular among my VAX friends, can you say getting old. Also the CCP had the perk of counting as college credit I believe for the 3 exams you could earn 3 lower level and 15 upper level IT credits toward your BS degree. MS certs have only recently been given any college credits and that is due to their clout not the validity of their exams. One thing to watch for though is recruiters my send you for Cisco jobs thinking the CCP stand for Cisco Cert. Pro. I had a couple awkward interviews *grin. If I was going to hire someone I'd feel safer with a CCP. After all the wizards don't always cut it. Un-fortunatly as you pointed out they rarely are found in a job posting. I do believe that the CCP can jump you up a GS level or 2 in government jobs, but that may not be true any longer. The only interview that was impressed with my CCP was at a State College. The state hiring guide lines would not allow for weighted decisions based on vendor certs. but since the CCP is independant they can consider it. So in some markets the CCP may still be a plus. Go for it, just to prove you know more than most.
