Default What can I do to better my IT career

I'm a newbie still to IT. I have Associate Degree in
Computer Systems and Network Technology. I am having
extreme difficulty finding a job (career) due to most all
companies requiring experience. I have worked as a
computer operator using the MVS operating system that
utilizes MVS and Jes2 commands. I am currently on a 2 week
temp assignment on a helpdesk. I have a customer service
background and am really enjoying being on a helpdesk. I
feel that a helpdesk position is what I'd like to do,
considering my background with dealing with customers as
well as my ability to take ownership of problems. I am a
hard dedicated worker who is capable of seeing the big
picture and am very eager to soak up any training that I
can. Does anyone whos been in the field awhile have any
advice on what I can do to make myself more marketable for
the It pro field preferably Helpdesk Tech. Thanks for
advice you may have
