I remember reading somewhere that one of these formats (HD-DVD or
Blue-Ray) had all the movie studios signed up. Does any know which format that is? Thanks in advance. DRO |

Blu-ray has all the studios signed up except for Universal. Toshiba's HD-DVD does NOT have the support of Disney, Sony, MGM, Lionsgate, and I forget the other one (Fox?) So, Blu-ray is the way to go! |

HD-DVD has the support of Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, Warners,
HBO Video, and New Line Entertainment. But more importantly, the marketplace will ignore both formats and they'll each end up as relevant as SACD and DVD-A. IMHO, of couse. |

Only Universal supports Toshiba without supporting Blu-ray. 4-5 studios support Blu-ray but do NOT support Toshiba's HDDVD. Can you do without Disney? Sony? They both are Blu-ray only. |

I have seen both the HD DVD and Blu Ray machines with HDMI fed to a very
high end Plasma. They look wonderful. They do not look a quantum leap above upconverted DVD in the same setting, however. I think this incremental change will not attract a huge number of consumers to buy yet more versions of the movies they like. If, however, the writable discs get around $5 or so, instead of $20, internal writers for PCs could be the niche for these media. HD-DVD already has titles launched with players from major studios, and the
HDXA1 launched in Japan is apparently shipped with titles one of which is Resident Evil... a Sony disc by all accounts... strange world isn't it?
