Default AutoGK Crashes

I installed AutoGK 2.26 defaults along with its helper defaults, but
when I try to load it, it crashes.

I have no problems with other programs doing this so it's not my Win2K
system.

What is going on?

Have you check the application event log?

"I have no problems with other programs doing this so it's not my Win2K

Bad assumption.

There's a very good chance that AutoGK is conflicting with another
installed program.

One place to start is by disabling your startup programs, then load
AutoGK.

Something leads me to believe you have version 6.03 of Divx installed or you
recently upgraded Divx 6.x to that version. If so, AutoGK crashes. AutoGK
was designed to work with older versions of Divx.

There is a patched Divx.dll that can be placed in the Windows/System
directory as I recall. You need to look for it or do the hex repair of the
file to get it to work.

I will remember to do that next time.

I meant the installed OS, not startups.

I would assume that is correct.

I am asking if anyone has experienced this on their machine so I can
get a clue where to look.

I loaded DivX 6 recently from http://www.divx.com/

According to the README: "Version 6.1"

BTW, I used the "update" utility that comes with the DivX package and
it says that I am fully up to date.

Bummer.

Why didn't they say so?

Screw it. I will wait until AutoGK catches up to the real world.

I wish people who recommend utilities would let us know these problems
so we would not waste time.

Thanks for your heads up.

1) Who are these "people who recommend utilities?"

2) In defense of AutoGK, which I neither use or support, how can
you expect every software writer to check compatibility with every
version of software, out there?

People on these forums.

LOL. Your hyperbole is humerous.

Divx codecs are not "every version of software out there".

You're absolutely correct. I leaped before I looked.

I was unaware of AutoGK's claim to fame, regarding its ties to DivX.

Sounds like *they're* the ones not keeping up!
