Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of BLOODLINE, CHANG, GATCHAMAN,
COLLECTION 4 (VOLUMES 7 AND 2ND GIG (VOLUME 2), GHOST STORIES SEMESTER 2: SOPHOMORE SCARES (VOLUME 2), GRASS, THE HISTORY CHANNEL: BATTLE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY, MEZZO: COMPLETE COLLECTION, PICTURE PERFECT, and SAMURAI X: DIRECTOR'S CUT COLLECTION: BLOODLINE (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 84/100): "Just when you think you might have the plot nailed and the characters figured out, they unleash another barrage of twists. I found this aspect both rewarding and irritating." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/bloodline.php CHANG (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 92/100): "Is it cruel to kill all these animals, or is this a realistic depiction of survival? Chang plays both ways, which is what makes it even more interesting now than in 1927, when audiences never would have seen the actions of Kru and the villagers as problematic." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/chang.php GATCHAMAN, COLLECTION 4 (VOLUMES 7 AND overall score 81/100): "Once again treading that fine line between action and absurdity, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman marches on." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gatchamancoll4.php GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX: 2ND GIG (VOLUME 2) (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 95/100): "Despite all the intrigue developing on a geopolitical level in the series, with the growing refugee crisis, political wheeling and dealing, and secretive government agencies, one thing Stand Alone Complex never forgets to address is the intellectual complexities of living in a modernized mechanical society, such as cyborg food, for example, created for the sole purpose of satiating the inescapable need to trigger memories based on food stimulation. Humans who have upgraded their bodies, like Batou, have no need for food in the traditional sense, but are unable to escape the pitfalls of their own human subconscious. " FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gits2ndgigvol2.php GHOST STORIES SEMESTER 2: SOPHOMORE SCARES (VOLUME 2) (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 94/100): "It's a pee-in-your-pants laugh riot, and more than a little twisted. The humor is sharp, topical, and kinky all at once. These are some sick puppies behind the microphones, who seem to be fascinated with Republicans, celebrities, and overweight transsexuals." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ghoststories2.php GRASS (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 87/100): "So is this story about the trials of the Bakhtiari -- or the trials of Cooper, Shoedsack, and Harrison? In the end, Cooper knew that he was as fascinating a character as anything he could find. And isn't selling yourself just part of the show?" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/grass1925.php THE HISTORY CHANNEL: BATTLE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 90/100): "Flush with authentic footage and more informational content than you can shake a bayonet at, these five discs will rupture your cerebral cortex with its mammoth discharge of information." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/histusmilitary.php MEZZO: COMPLETE COLLECTION (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 88/100): "Mezzo is a real 'everything but the kitchen sink' series. The creators want big, violent action, but they also want cutesy comedy and overwrought heartbreaking drama as well. It's a wild ride while you're watching it, but all the various pieces don't quite hold together at the end." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/mezzocomplete.php PICTURE PERFECT (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall score 80/100): "Alert Web surfers will notice how much the DVD cases of two movies under the title -- one with Jennifer Aniston and one with Kirti Reddy -- look alike. In each case, the smiling actress is at right with photos shown at left. The similarities are picture perfect, huh? Pathfinder Home Video is stressing the similarities, because the Bollywood picture is a remake of Aniston's Picture Perfect. Clever, huh?" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/pictureperfect.php SAMURAI X: DIRECTOR'S CUT COLLECTION (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 90/100): "Revisiting Trust and Betrayal, it occurred to me that we'd all be much happier right now had George Lucas checked it out before making his Star Wars prequel trilogy."
