Did anyone else test this somewhat convoluted approach?

1. Place US region 1 Disney Valiant DVD into your DVD reader.
2. Use DVD Decrypter3.5.4.0 to rip all files to your hard disk.
3. Use the very latest DVD Fab Decrypter 2.9.6.8 to re-rip.
4. Use jeanldvd's FixVTS 1.23 to remove unreferenced cells.
5. Use DVD Shrink 3.2 to author just the main 3.5 GB Title 1.

This worked for me but I suspect step 2 & 3 are redundant. I only ran
DVD Fab Decrypter on the DVD Decrypter ripped files because DVD Fab
Decrypter was purported to allow DVD Shrink 3.2 to see the main movie
title - but it didn't do anything of the sort.

Likewise, I had run VOB Blanker after the DVD Decrypter step 2, but,
by default anyway, without any manual intervention, VOB Blanker also
failed to ensure a good result for DVD Shrink to see the main movie
title.

Thankfully,Mark Burns' suggested fix video title set program removed
unreferenced and blank cells in place so that DVD Shrink could finally
read the main title 1 of the movie. Now, I no longer must suffer
through those interminable trailers every time my child watches the
movie I bought but which forces video spam onto my child.

Software references are as follows.

DVD Fab Decrypter 2.9.6.8

FixVTS 1.23

If anyone has an idea WHY DVD Fab Decrypter & VOB Blanker failed us,
let us know as they are purported to work elsewhere.

One shouldn't need to use DVD Fab Decrypter in step 3.

Cheers...

What does FixVTS fix that VOB Blanker doesn't fix?

I was told to archive problem DVDs with DVD Decrypter, VOB Blanker, DVD
Shrink, and ImgBurn in that order.

Now you tell me to use FixVTS instead of VOB Blanker. OK. No problem.

But what does FixVTS fix that VOB Blanker doesn't blank?

Apparently stuff that DvdShrink looks for. I suspect that RipGuard was
designed to defeat DvdShrink and DvdXcopy (321 Studios). That would
take care of 60-70% of the ripping population.

One can download the code from the website for FixVTS to see exactly
what that it does.

Cheers...

Pamela:

I looked at my copy of the Walt Disney's Jungle Book the other day.
There is no video spam on it. There is just a nice, pleasant menu of
the feature. This must have been an early DVD release. Since then
Disney Studios has become obnoxious with the over marketing to captive
children.

Walt Disney had no children of his own, but loved all children in a
special way as he seemed to be so in touch with his own childhood.
Jungle Book was the last film that he was able to work on. It will be
a pity that when the next batch of Jungle Book DVD's from Disney is
released that they will besmirch his memory again.

Cheers...

Mark

Hi Mark,
I use DVDXCopy Platinum v. 4.0.3.8 & after four years using it, the ONLY DVD
movie it failed to copy was Madagascar. Now that you mention RipGuard,
perhaps that's what was special about Madagascar 'cause I also tried ripping
using DVDShrink, Clone DVD, DVD Clone, 1 Click DVD Copy, etc to no avail.

According to "CDFreaks", Macrovision RipGuard can be defeated
automatically by AnyDVD v 5.6.1.1. When Forbes Magazine reported that
some of its people found a RipGuard decoder on the internet,
Macrovision's stock took a hit.

AnyDvd at $40 is reportedly a very good product.

Both DvdDecrypter and FixVTS are free. FixVTS is a very good product
in itself, not only in repairing RipGuard or ARccOS rips, but also in
repairing any other problems in the VIDEO_TS folder from a wayward
authoring application. Since this is an authoring group it is a
program to be aware of.

Other current supported rippers include FabDecrypter (free),
DVD43(free), Magix($40), DvdFabExpress($40).

There is only so much that a company can do to the established DVD
format without rendering them unplayable on existing players.

Cheers...
