It's been a terrible year for them. The software debacle, falling
revenues, competition from more dynamic companies, Apple kicking their a-- in the portable music bus, that spy software debacle. But you know? Sony deserves it. They are the most arrogant group of jerks (as a company) you could ever hope not to deal with. Now this; From dpreview.com: Sony China Ltd has suspended sales of several compact cameras after they failed quality tests carried out by China's National Camera Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, according to a report by Interfax China. Nine Sony cameras were selected for inspection and six failed. The affected cameras are the DSC-H1, DSC-L1, DSC-P200, DSC-W7, DSC-W5 and DSC-S90. Chinese consumers who purchased these cameras can return them to Sony for a refund. There were also 13 cameras from other manufacturers that failed quality tests. Talk about humiliating. -Rich Rich |

I felt Sony was losing the plot a couple of years ago when I purchased a Discman. My first Discman, purchased in the early 90s, lasted through many years of constant use. My second one lasted barely six months before it developed skipping problems, by the time I had it only 1 year it got tossed into the garbage. Secondly, a few years ago, I purchased a CD carousel. Now what is the first button you would place on a remote control? When they first invented remote controls, do you think they said, let's make sure we have a shuffle button! No, they put an on and off switch on it. Does this Sony remote have an on and off button? Nope. Also, this is the first CD player I own that actually manages to skip like a broken record on occasion. In October, I bought the new Alicia Keys live CD. I made the mistake of wanting to listen to it. While I was typing in a file at work, I slipped it into my computer. To my surprise, it indicated that it was loading something on the computer before I could even react. It then kicked up a EULA which I declined and it spit the disc back out. Weeks later, come to find out, it loaded Mediamax software without my permission. I legally purchased this item and now my privacy, my work computer and my ability to listen to the CD have been violated and compromised by this company. I don't download music nor do I have peer to peer software on my computer and this is how I'm treated? Eff Sony. I'll be going out of my way to avoid Sony as completely as possible. They used to epitomize superior Japanese engineering and construction, now it seems one gets the quickie Chinese crap you find on the shelves at Walmart. I'm willing to pay for quality, it's just becoming harder to find. kaboomie kaboom |

I dunno, we are talking about China. The "quality test" they "failed"
could have simply been a missing "Made In China" sticker. :^) - Jordan Jordan |

Gave us: >**Dang tootin, you might as well purchase Coby products instead. OMG, Sony is bad but they aren't that bad. I bought one of those DVD players, and it would lose the sound part way through the flic ALL the time! Without a resume feature, I would have to stop play, restart, wait thru the menus, and then skip to the viewing point. It was supposed to be a prog scan, with 5.1 outs. It had 'em but it didn't work worth a ****. Sony can't be that bad. Roy L. Fuchs |

I'm more offended at their actions, i.e., poor engineering, build quality, and, worse, this DRM garbage. I expect nothing from Coby, but I expect a lot better from Sony. It's shameful. kaboomie kaboom |

There's little reason to choose Sony over (say) Samsung or Panasonic these days. -goro- Goro |
