Default copy protect on RCA DVD/VHS Recorder

A friend of mine purchase an RCA DRC8295N DVD/4 Head VCR Player DVD/VHS
Recorder

They want to be able to copy dvd's to a dvd-r with it but it won't let
them because of the copyright on them. Is there a way around this?
I've searched and searched and haven't had much luck. And yes, this is
so they can have a back up.

Would one these work for this model?

Or is there something else I can try?

Not possible.

1) You have to break the copy protection scheme. There are no standalones
that can do this because it's illegal.

2) You cant fit 8 gigs of data on to a 4 gig DVD-R.

If 'your friend' needs backup copies of his DVD's, teach him how to properly
handle them so he won't need backups, or just have him buy a 2nd copy of the
DVD since they are so cheap.
