Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE,
CROMARTIE HIGH SCHOOL: MOUNT ROCKMORE (VOLUME 4), THE FALLEN ONES, THE FREAKMAKER, FUGITIVE HUNTER, GANTZ: FATAL ATTRACTIONS (VOLUME 7), GANTZ: DEATHWATCH (VOLUME OF SILENCE AND DARKNESS, NIGHT SUN, PIANO: MOVEMENT 2: CONFESSIONS, and SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN: ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 75/100): "Another Time, Another Place catches Sean Connery right before superstardom and Lana Turner between her performances in two of her greatest films, the underappreciated Peyton Place and Douglas Sirk's remake of Imitation of Life. But the real reason to watch this film is to catch a glimpse of Glynis Johns -- a star who should have been." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/an...otherplace.php CROMARTIE HIGH SCHOOL: MOUNT ROCKMORE (VOLUME 4) (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 88/100): "To the extent that one can discern an organizational principle behind Cromartie High School's episodes, it would be the hard juxtaposition of clashing styles of humor: the fiercely intelligent with the utterly inane; the incisively self-aware with juvenile silliness. In that way, it is perhaps an Eastern kin of Monty Python's Flying Circus." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/cr...schoolvol4.php THE FALLEN ONES (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 73/100): "So what we have here is essentially a handful of fun ideas and creature designs, swamped by cheesy effects work and snafus common with B-movies." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/fallenones.php THE FREAKMAKER (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 80/100): "The Freakmaker is exactly what you'd expect from a British revamp of Tod Browning's classic Freaks. It's very polite, filled with Hammer- style horrors and ends up almost apologizing for its own existence." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/freakmaker.php FUGITIVE HUNTER (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 76/100): "Instead of gangsters or rogue cops or lone men fighting for justice, the protagonists in Fugitive Hunter are bail bondsmen-for-hire. Yeah, it doesn't sound as sexy as 'unhinged loose cannon ex-MI6 agent,' but it's different and surprisingly un-suckariffic." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/fugitivehunter.php GANTZ: FATAL ATTRACTIONS (VOLUME 7) (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 50/100): "I kicked a dog a few weeks ago, so God has punished me by delivering another Gantz disc to my doorstep." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gantzvol7.php GANTZ: DEATHWATCH (VOLUME score 50/100): "Think about it -- this show is so bad it can't even generate sympathy by killing a dog. Hell, that's the easiest trick in the book." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gantzvol8.php GILGAMESH: A WAKE FOR THE UNDEAD (VOLUME 3) (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 92/100): "What's most frustrating about Gilgamesh as an anime series is how long we are having to wait for the characters to catch up to what viewers already know, or have easily surmised from previous episodes." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gilgameshvol3.php LAND OF SILENCE AND DARKNESS (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 85/100): "At this point, it seems that Herzog is no longer manipulating or pulling punches, and perhaps because he no longer needs to. Simply by aiming his camera and letting it roll, he forces the viewer to face the desolate world of the disabled." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/la...nddarkness.php NIGHT SUN (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 80/100): "The robust score playing over the opening credits seems to be heralding an epic costume drama; the first shots set in expansive royal palaces appear to be setting the scene for an extravagant period piece. But in the end, Night Sun ends up being neither of these things." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/nightsun.php PIANO: MOVEMENT 2: CONFESSIONS (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 79/100): "After this second volume of Piano, I think I am starting to understand it better. That understanding doesn't make it any more palatable, but I suppose it's something." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/pianomovement2.php SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 85/100): "There's not much heavy-lifting with this film. It's short and to the point, and while the humor isn't of the super-clever ilk that a studio like Pixar is known for, the kids to whom the film is geared should certainly get a kick out of it."
