Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE: CRITERION
COLLECTION, THE DEFENDER, GHOST STORIES ONE, HOUSE OF WAX (2005), THE
LINA WERTMULLER COLLECTION, THE MAN WITH NINE LIVES, POINT PLEASANT: THE
COMPLETE SERIES, THE RESURRECTED, SIGNS OF LIFE, 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN:
SEASON TWO, and 2004 NFC CHAMPIONS: PHILADELPHIA EAGLES:

AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Bill Gibron,
overall score 97/100):
"When you're looking for sure signs of social acceptance, happiness
is high on the list. Of course, it helps to have art as your
assistance. You can get a great deal accomplished with that kind of
angel at your table."

THE DEFENDER (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 83/100):
"From the first moment the enemies open fire, the movie rarely takes a
breath. Seriously, this must have set some kind of record in the prop
department for most blanks used."

GHOST STORIES ONE (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 90/100):
"Ghost Stories One just might be the most fun you're going to have
with anime this year. It's fast and funny with a twisted take on
pop culture."

HOUSE OF WAX (2005) (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall score 83/100):
"On par with most 'dead teenager' flicks, the young stars are about as
interchangeable as Paris Hilton's boyfriends/sex partners/ex-fiances."

THE LINA WERTMULLER COLLECTION (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall
score 83/100):
"The truth of the matter is that Lina Wertmuller, for better or worse,
stands out as the one modern female film director whose films are both
commercially successful (and accessible to audiences) and yet critically
respectable. Not that this should be taken to disparage the work of Lina
Wertmuller in any way. It just seems like, well, to drop a cliche,
Wertmuller is in a class by herself."

THE MAN WITH NINE LIVES (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 74/100):
"Although ostensibly a 'mad doctor' film, and easily lumped in with a
run of several similar Karloff-starring science thrillers made by
Columbia in the late 1930s, those expecting the standard 'science run
amok' plot will be surprised to find that The Man with Nine Lives does
not actually condemn limitless scientific research, but instead suggests
that individual sacrifices are sometimes a necessary evil on the road to
saving thousands."

POINT PLEASANT: THE COMPLETE SERIES (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall
score 68/100):
"As our lead, Elisabeth Harnois is eye-gougingly sexy, but, sadly, she's
just not strong enough of an actress to carry a series. She does have
some great moments, especially during those times when she takes a step
toward her dark side, but at other times it seems she's just reading her
lines out loud, rather than creating a character."

THE RESURRECTED (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 85/100):
"It's a shame old H.P. Lovecraft had to go and die all those years ago
(in 1937, to be exact). Had he hung around long enough to see the
invention of the modern movie macabre, he could have cleaned up
financially, what with all the residual checks he'd be owed and lawsuits
he'd win for the use, 'borrowing,' and outright stealing of the plots
and particulars of his unique brand of weird fiction."

SIGNS OF LIFE (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 89/100):
"Most of the film is constructed by sequences that bear very little
connection to each other in a chronological sense. Rather, they are a
series of individual scenes that reveal the characters' complex
relationship with their environment."

3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN: SEASON TWO (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall
score 95/100):
"Sadly, the fact that these are shortened episodes makes it difficult to
recommend a purchase here. Rent these discs, for certain, but purchase
only if your life depends on it."

2004 NFC CHAMPIONS: PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (reviewed by Jeff Andreasen,
overall score 95/100):
"All in all this is a great recap of the Eagles' near-championship
season, another stellar offering from NFL Films -- which keeps getting
better at this year-end highlight stuff -- and a must for any Eagles
fan's video shelf."
