I have a DVD-RW on which there was a playable DVD I'd recorded. Today
I tried to re-use it but cannot erase the existing contents. Using Nero Express I get just the unhelpful message 'Write Error'. How can I proceed please? Happy to provide any other details that might help isolate the problem. -- Terry, West Sussex, UK Terry Pinnell |

Cause that won't work if it's already got data on it, it could cause the error you seen. Try finding an option called disc erase first, then wait while it erases the disc, do full erase if you have a problem. Then try burning on it again. Also make sure your dvd burner support the -RW format, it might not recognize - and only do +RW. That's about all I can think of to try first. Good Luck, AnthonyR. AnthonyR |

Neither Nero Express nor MemoriesOnTV would complete their respective Erase Disc runs. Both gave 'Write Error'. And my DVD drive supports -RW. -- Terry, West Sussex, UK Terry Pinnell |

Since you have Nero and have the Smart Start front end, you might try the Extras tab - the extreme right icon. Under that there is a format disk. I don't know if this is the same as the one under Nero Express, but you might give it a shot. Bill -- Bill Vermillion - bv @ wjv . com Bill Vermillion |

A utility called Super Blank from http://www.infinadyne.com/super_blank.html has saved me when all else has failed. Mike Mike Kujbida |

Looked promising, but that too seems to have failed. Not entirely sure how to interpret it (no Help?). I inserted the disc and ran the program, pressing no buttons. After about a minute of progress under 'Auto Blank' the large Drive button turned red and the 'Blank' button changed to 'Clear', with a red X on it. Can you translate that for me please? Is there any program that will actually give me a definitive statement along the lines of 'This disc is unusable because of xxx.' ? -- Terry, West Sussex, UK Terry Pinnell |

If it was me, I would probably just discard the disc as one which has simply "gone bad" (diskettes often do the same thing). If I wanted any further information about the disc and its condition, I would run it through ISOBuster, doing a surface scan on the entire disc to see what it reports. http://www.smart-projects.net/ -- Frank, Independent Consultant, New York, NY [Please remove 'nojunkmail.' from address to reply via e-mail.] Read Frank's thoughts on HDV at http://www.humanvalues.net/hdv/ Frank |
