Default Moving VHS to DVD

I have seen some ideas on converting DVDs to VHF recording, but what is a
good way to copy VHS to DVD.
I am guessing that a video card with some kind of MP encoding would be
needed. Someone had the Idea to use one of the DvD recorders to do it but
will the copy protection on the older VHS tapes prevent this to happen. Any
Ideas?

www.videohelp.com
which links to (among others)
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/vid...530/index.html

(One answer is to get a standalone redcord and use it to capture the
tapes to DVD-RW, then load the DVD-RW into your computer for editinga
nd eventual mastering.)

Get a LiteOn 5045 (i.e. from Costco.com) and use the simple proceedure
available online (a CD-R that you create to flash a bios update) to dsiable
Copy Protection function. Then copy your VHS tapes to DVD to your hearts
content- for your own personal use of course- as giving them away or selling
the original and keeping a copy is violating the copyright. Simply putting
your original video on another format is not. That was settled years ago
when the cassette tape was invented and people made personal copies of the
LP's to take portable.

It's an interesting site, but it looks like converting VHS to DVD is
a pay service they offer. If they give do-it-yourself advice, I
didn't see it in the article list.

I checked to make sure, but there is a HUGE frame on the left hand side that
is labelled DVD VIDEO GUIDES, with sections for every step of the way and
recommendations, cant see how you could miss that..

Simple? It doesn't look so simple to me.

1. Download the 191 firmware for your region.

2. Find the hex values: "55 53 00 00 00 00 00 RGNCODE 00 00 00 00"

3. Replace it with: "55 53 00 00 00 00 00 RGNCODE-1 00 00 00 01"

I can't find the 191 firmware. The current version is 197.
I downloaded a freeware hex editor and searched on "RGNCODE" but
couldn't find it.

The LVW-5045 is a great buy. I was a little worried about buying one
because I read quite a few reviews that complained about audio sync
problems when recording to the hard drive. I decided to try it anyway
because there isn't any other DVD recorder with the same capabilities
that sells for less than $300. Apparently that audio sync problem has
been solved. I haven't had any problems with it and it is very easy to
use.

It was settled until the DMCA came along.

I didn't miss it. What I don't see in it is any how-to guide for what
the OP asked for, converting VHS to DVD oneself.

Please fix your newsreader settings; it's reformatting quoted lines
and screwing them up in the process.

A: Maybe because some people are too annoyed by top-posting.
Q: Why do I not get an answer to my question(s)?
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

There is a web site at http://ncc2315.com/ilo/ and more specifically for the
LVW-5045 at http://ncc2315.com/ilo/5045/index.htm that has a program that
will take whatever current version of your ILO/LiteOn standalone and it will
make the proper changes to the firmware file for you. then you just burn to
cdr and boot the disk in the burner. You do not need to know how to use a hex
editor to do it.
