Default DVD player with Divx support

Currently it seems the Phillips 642 DVD player is the most popular for Divx
support. But looking at the reviews, it seems cheap and a lot of people
have had it break after 6 months or so.
Can anyone suggest good alternatives?

I'd like to get something that will last me for several years at least.
This is for the USA market...

Thanks!
Thor

i have the OPPO 971H (http://oppodigital.com/)
$199. Has Faroudja DCDi upconverting to 720p, DVI out, PAL/NTSC, easy
Region free hack, Divx, MPEG, AVI playback. it's really nice.

DVP 642 is fine, but the best solution is the XBOX( $300 with mod)cheaper
used, with mod chip plays everything divx avi mpeg mp3 etc,etc and of course
the games also......... every disc I tried hundreds it plays them all) thing
about the DVP642 is won`t play all divx or xvid (most but not all).

I have this Philips 642, have had it for over a year now. It's cheap, it's
reliable, it'll play anything you throw at it including other region dvds,
and at this price if it ever breaks on me I'd just go and buy another one.

**At the price of some of these players, I use different players for
different things. I use my main Philips/Magnavox DVD player from 1999
to play regular DVDs. It avoids putting wear and tear on the cheapos.
I use a Magnavox 458 to play PAL discs, DVD-R or the occasional
regular DVD that the P/M won't load. I have the Philips 642 in a box
in the closet I came across a great deal for it and I couldn't pass
it up ($52 at Meijer).

This looks like a really good player, but only if you have a display with
DVI. Otherwise it doesn't support progressive scan, it outputs 480i...

It looks like the large majority of these players are for markets outside
the US...

Same here. I've got two of the 642s. The one in the livingroom is about a
year and is gets used the most. No problems. The remote sucks, though.
