Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ALL IN THE FAMILY: THE COMPLETE
FOURTH SEASON, AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS: VOLUME 1, BEWITCHED: THE
COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (BLACK AND WHITE), DAWSON'S CREEK: THE COMPLETE
FIFTH SEASON, FRASIER: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON, GREEN ACRES: THE
COMPLETE SECOND SEASON, NEWLYWEDS: NICK AND JESSICA: THE COMPLETE SECOND
AND THIRD SEASONS, and ONCE AND AGAIN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON:

ALL IN THE FAMILY: THE COMPLETE FOURTH SEASON (reviewed by Bryan Pope,
overall score 80/100):
"It's no small measure of All in the Family's success that, almost 35
years after the series first appeared on the pop culture landscape,
people are still talking about how a show like that would never get put
on television today. How true, and how sad."

AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS: VOLUME 1 (reviewed by David Johnson,
overall score 80/100):
"I suspect there's a secret lab buried somewhere beneath the castle at
Walt Disney World that manufactures synthetic cornball audience members
for use on AFV, the set of That '70s Show, and every single infomercial
ever made."

BEWITCHED: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (BLACK AND WHITE) (reviewed by
Brett Cullum, overall score 94/100):
"Bewitched still has social relevance decades after it premiered. The
story of a mortal marrying a witch was a thinly-veiled meditation on
mixed marriage. Television wasn't ready for an interracial couple, but
the fantasy world of the show made that concept more palatable and
within reach."

DAWSON'S CREEK: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON (reviewed by Ryan Keefer,
overall score 71/100):
"Like the athlete who sticks around for one season too many, or the
boxer that has one too many prizefights, Dawson's Creek outlived its
welcome shortly before Season Four ended, and the concepts thrown around
in Season Five defy a lot of common sense."

FRASIER: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall
score 92/100):
"Kelsey Grammer is the near pinnacle of his comedic timing. His delivery
of witty lines and execution of physical comedy (something not often
associated with the show, though present in heavy doses) is perfection.
His multiple Emmy wins were well deserved."

GREEN ACRES: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON (reviewed by Erick Harper,
overall score 95/100):
"The secret to Green Acres's enduring appeal is its absurdist view of
the world. Hooterville and its residents seem to exist in a sort of
parallel universe with its own indecipherable logic and rules."

NEWLYWEDS: NICK AND JESSICA: THE COMPLETE SECOND AND THIRD SEASONS
(reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 80/100):
"Newlyweds -- Nick and Jessica: The Complete Second & Third Seasons
is enjoyable in the way that ice cream and Fountains of Wayne songs are
enjoyable. It's kind of like a modern-day I Love Lucy, with Jessica
Simpson at the scatterbrained center and Nick Lachey as her level-
headed, sometimes put-upon Ricky Ricardo."

ONCE AND AGAIN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (reviewed by Bryan Pope,
overall score 90/100):
"A pox on the naysayers who think network television is incapable of
producing original, intelligent, adult drama. Such assertions are a slap
in the face to Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, two creative minds
who have seemingly devoted their careers to upping the ante on what
television can offer."

Speaking of reach, this interpretation of the series intent is really
reaching.

Well, even if they were merely cloning off "Bell, Book & Candle", maybe
BB&C was trying for the mixed-marriage metaphor...

Actually, I can think of at least one episode of Bewitched that poked
fun at this metaphor. If the comparison wasn't written in intentionally,
it was a heck of an accident.

I had exactly the same reaction. I think all those film interpretation
courses in college can have a negative effect.
