I'm a newbie to this software, but help. I'm creating a simple DVD
movie (one shoot, no separate chapters). How do I add a straight fade
in before the movie starts and a fade out when it's over?

Please help.

1. Add the clip
2. Select Edit
3. Go to the effects tab and select FADES.
4. The effect you want is named 'Additive Fade"
5. Select and drag to the start of the video on the timeline. Drag another
one to the end of the video on the timeline.
