Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of BLACK SHAMPOO, BOOGEYMAN, GOODBYE,
DRAGON INN, HAACK: THE KING OF TECHNO, THE LAST GAME, MY BRILLIANT
CAREER, NEIL GAIMAN'S A SHORT FILM ABOUT JOHN BOLTON, TRADING SPACES:
CREATIVE HOME DECOR WITH DESIGNER DOUG WILSON, and VIBRATIONS /
FLUCTUATIONS / SUBMISSION:

BLACK SHAMPOO (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 92/100):
"In the back of my mind, I realize that Black Shampoo is a bad movie.
That didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of it."

BOOGEYMAN (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall score 43/100):
"You are, at the moment, reading the words of an angry DVD critic. In
fact, I'd go so far as to say I'm monumentally angry. I am angry at the
actors, writers, and directors. I'm angry at the crowds who propelled
this movie to #1 at the box office. I am angry at Sam Raimi -- the same
man who directed the now-classic Evil Dead films, for crissake! -- for
producing the dull, lifeless, and shoddy turd known as Boogeyman."

GOODBYE, DRAGON INN (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 90/100):
"Goodbye, Dragon Inn is, quite frankly, a film that will appeal to a
very small minority of even the most devoted of film buffs. It's a film
that pushes the viewer to one extreme or the other: either complete
absorption or utter boredom."

HAACK: THE KING OF TECHNO (reviewed by Russell Engebretson, overall
score 82/100):
"Phil Anagnos says he has gotten a lot of flack from many electronica
fans who argue Haack had nothing to do with techno. Anagnos defends his
choice of the title when he says, 'you can view techno as an electric
acid bass line, tweaked out, or it can be a whole aesthetic culture.'
Certainly, a strong argument can be made that Bruce Haack's electronic
experimentation was at least a precursor to later groups such as
Kraftwerk and Gary Numan, and those bands in turn were a strong
influence on artists as disparate as Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Black
Lung, to name just a few."

THE LAST GAME (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 85/100):
"As a sports film, the action is mesmerizing, and the games and their
outcomes are as tense and riveting as anything Hollywood has dreamt up.
Much more so, considering it's all real."

MY BRILLIANT CAREER (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 95/100):
"While in 1979 the time was ripe for a feminist drama, the film has
weathered its age with grace thanks to Armstrong's light touch with the
material: Its message of female selfhood is conveyed with humor, warmth,
and a spirit of romance. It also helps that Sybylla is a heroine that
almost everyone should be able to relate to, not just women or
feminists."

NEIL GAIMAN'S A SHORT FILM ABOUT JOHN BOLTON (reviewed by Neil Dorsett,
overall score 82/100):
"Gaiman is currently working on several film projects; here's hoping
that John Bolton got him the experience he wanted and that everything
goes well, because we need people this full of ideas in the cinema
landscape."

TRADING SPACES: CREATIVE HOME DECOR WITH DESIGNER DOUG WILSON (reviewed
by David Johnson, overall score 84/100):
"If you've seen the show and are big fan, then this disc is for you. If
you're looking for ideas on how to make your home brutally ugly on a low
budget, well, this disc for you too."

VIBRATIONS / FLUCTUATIONS / SUBMISSION (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
score 88/100):
"Anyone who is a Sarno fan knows that he has two modes of operation. In
his later years, he has focused almost solely on softcore sex films,
usually filmed in -- and featuring actors from -- his newfound homeland
of Sweden."
