DVD Video - Adding a commentary track to a silent DVD |

A group of my older relatives just made a DVD of about 2 hours worth of
silent home movies from the 30s and 40s and they would like to record a commentary track on it ("Look! There's Aunt Gusta", that kind of thing). Is there such a thing as software that lets you play back a DVD (or the MPEG files thereon) and dub audio onto it as you go? I could just fire off the DVD and record them talking in a separate app, but I'm concerned the sync will go off. Since the DVD is full of 3-4 second bits and I don't know Aunt Beryl from Uncle Ralph, I'd never get it straight. Thanks for any help! -- Rich Fife -- Rich Fife |

Hi,
I am faced with a smiliar situation. The solution I came up with was to sit and watch the film, and have a digital voice recorder in front of me, and I narrated it. Afterward, I downloaded the track and added it to the film with DVD Lab Pro. I have not finished this project yet, but this appears to work. The only downside is you need a digital voice recorder which will allow you to download to your PC, and it needs to have sufficent space to handle the entire movie, so 120 + minutes of constant recording for you. I'm specifically trying to avoid doing that due to the synchronization
issues I mentioned, but thanks for the suggestion! -- Rich Fife -- Rich Fife |

Under the Edit button (after you have loaded the .mpg), there is an Audio tab. Click this. In this tab is a Record button. Connect your microphone to your sound card. Press Record. Now your audio is recorded onto the video as it plays. Alpha |

PS
The same capability is in Nero Vision Express 3: In the Edit mode the video display has a microphone icon. Click this. Your audio is recorded as the clip plays.
