Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of BEAR CUB, BIRTH (2004), BRIAN
WILSON PRESENTS SMILE, CALL ME: THE RISE AND FALL OF HEIDI FLEISS, DARKNESS: UNRATED EDITION, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, L'ARGENT, THE QUICK AND DIRTY GUIDE TO SALSA: PART TWO: INTERMEDIATE, and TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE: UNCENSORED AND UNRATED SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION: BEAR CUB (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 93/100): "All of these people are doing the best they can, and what they think is right. The film does not pass judgment on any of its characters, no matter what their lifestyle or beliefs dictate. Bear Cub is a three- dimensional film in emotional terms. It looks at every situation from all angles, and amazingly offers 360 degree views of all parties involved." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/bearcub.php BIRTH (2004) (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 81/100): "A sustained shot of Kidman's face during a concert tells an entire story, as the discordant music coincides with the discordant thoughts flitting across her face. This is the moment when she begins to believe in Sean, and the actress conveys the progression from fragile doubt to grief-tinged belief without words." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/birth2004.php BRIAN WILSON PRESENTS SMILE (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 93/100): "'Good Vibrations' might be a celebratory gospel standard, if it were not mistaken for mere white-bread surf music." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/brianwilsonsmile.php CALL ME: THE RISE AND FALL OF HEIDI FLEISS (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 70/100): "It wants to be a daring tell-all biopic, but it reveals little and is saddled with a lead who isn't ready to do the dirty work. But it's not all bad news. The pace is super-quick, and the short run time keeps the energy flying and the squeals coming as they move from one camp-filled sequence to the next. It goes down easy like a bad pizza, and even though it's forgettable there is a gleeful spirit to the tale that is hard to hate." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/heidifleiss.php DARKNESS: UNRATED EDITION (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 70/100): "Once the final credits roll, however, all the fear and intensity fades. Instead, viewers will instantly pick the movie apart, wondering why certain events happened and why characters acted the way they did. It's all scares, but not much plot." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/darknessue.php FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 88/100): "I had some concerns about revisiting the adventures of Max and David when this DVD arrived. Could it in fact measure up to the warm memories I had from way back when? In a word: yes!" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/flightnavigator.php L'ARGENT (reviewed by Joe Armenio, overall score 97/100): "The film's final sequence, in which he encounters a family of 'physical and emotional cripples,' as Jones puts it, run without complaint by a brittle and damaged but deeply compassionate woman who offers Yvon refuge, is among the deepest and ultimately most devastating passages in all of cinema." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/largent.php THE QUICK AND DIRTY GUIDE TO SALSA: PART TWO: INTERMEDIATE (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 86/100): "With a straightforward attitude and no dazzling effects, they demonstrate the steps with little introduction. The instruction goes by quickly, which has the benefit of allowing them to cover a lot of steps, but you'll likely need to use your skip buttons to go over the steps multiple times before you can match Gigi and Pedro's pizzazz." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/quickdirtysalsa2.php TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE: UNCENSORED AND UNRATED SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 94/100): "The thought of a couple of dolls throwing **** on each other is just too friggin' comical. This is the anarchic ace up the sleeve of every member of the marionette menagerie. Stick them in any situation, and the giggles just grow and grow. Trey Parker and Matt Stone understood this concept all too well."
