The latest fun bill to make its way through Congress: the Family Movie
Act, which is being proposed to allow parents to censor out objectionable content in movies and programs on video. Of course, how will they be able to edit their home videos and DVDs? Only by using technology provided by good old "moralistic" companies who keep track of all the naughty, nasty, bad things being released on video these days. Yet again, it's time to Protect The Children through censorship! http://www.grassfire.org/39/petition.asp Modemac |

Here's the free solution that no one in government or religion : DON'T BUY, RENT or WATCH a movie rated higher than "G"....that's what ratings are for, a head's-up!! This reference to religion is not meant as an anti-religion statement, just to the 0.0000000001% of the average church-goer who wants to make everyone else suffer by trying to force government to change long-standing freedoms because they misunderstand their own religion. Yet again, it's time to Protect The Children through censorship! Consider whether this thin-ended wedge may have two edges. Pre-teens whose parents now confine them to Gumby reruns may get to brush (however lightly) against some of the corrupting/enriching influence of the real media-world. -- /---------------------------\ | YOUR taste at work... | | | | http://www.moviepig.com | \---------------------------/ moviePig |

The President already signed this bill into law back on April 27th. Joe S. |

That was a PETITION; not a bill.
The Bill is something else. Assco |

357) that affirms the right of citizens to purchase and use in the privacy of their homes technology that allows them to skip over or mute objectionable content in legally purchased or rented DVD movies. " I.e. we have the RIGHT to purchase a remote control unit. Aint freedom grand? Assco |

This bill is in response to the MPAA and big movie companies trying to (once again) reduce our "fair use" rights. They claimed that automated systems that eliminate "objectionable" content from DVDs were violations of their copyright rights. Personally, I don't have any use for such a system, but I don't see any problem with somebody who wants to use one, and I'm not unhappy that the MPAA lost this one. -- Jeff Rife | "Grab a shovel...I'm only one skull | short of a Mouseketeer reunion." | | -- Bender, "Futurama" Jeff Rife |
