Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE BOB NEWART SHOW: THE COMPLETE
FIRST SEASON, DYNASTY: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON, THE JOB: THE COMPLETE
SERIES, MURDER, SHE WROTE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON, MYSTERY SCIENCE
THEATER 3000 COLLECTION, VOLUME 7, POPULAR MECHANICS FOR KIDS: X-TREME
SPORTS AND OTHER ACTION ADVENTURES, THE QUESTION OF GOD: SIGMUND FREUD
AND C.S. LEWIS, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SERIES, and
WORLD POKER TOUR: SEASON TWO:

THE BOB NEWART SHOW: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (reviewed by Dennis
Prince, overall score 76/100):
"While the ensemble cast of The Bob Newhart Show was absolutely
elemental to the show's success, it was the wonderfully straight-faced
humor of the diminutive and dour Newhart that made the show work.
Already a master of precision timing and reaction, thanks to his earlier
comedy work, Newhart proved to be a perfect personality for '70s
sitcoms, able to evoke genuinely hearty laughs often without ever
uttering a word."

DYNASTY: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 88/100):
"This DVD set contains many episodes that explore the oil industry from
the ground up, through the struggles of the decidedly unglamorous
Blaisdales, and doesn't contain even one hint of a catfight between two
women in garish shoulder pads. It's markedly different than the excess
Dynasty proudly flaunted later in its run. Most of the stories are
believable, and paced more realistically."

THE JOB: THE COMPLETE SERIES (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall
score 96/100):
"Rarely does a television show put forth a protagonist so inherently
repulsive and unlikable, while at the same time, so hilarious and
downright sympathetic. McNeil is the kind of guy you would love to drink
with at the bar all night into the wee hours, but who would be
incredibly difficult to maintain as a close friend, or coworker, or
father, or husband."

MURDER, SHE WROTE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (reviewed by Amanda DeWees,
overall score 83/100):
"Energetic, independent, and quick to take the initiative, Jessica is
exactly the kind of woman I'd like to be at that age -- heck, the kind
of woman I'd like to be now. She was that rare creature in TV land: a
retirement-aged woman who was active, interesting, and capable of
carrying an entire series."

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 COLLECTION, VOLUME 7 (reviewed by Bill
Gibron, overall score 94/100):
"The argument against MST more or less fails. Asking Joel, Mike, and the
Robots to resist the urge to attack these movies and their patently
obvious flaws is absurd. Instead of tearing down the series, you should
be supporting their efforts."

POPULAR MECHANICS FOR KIDS: X-TREME SPORTS AND OTHER ACTION ADVENTURES
(reviewed by Bryan Pope, overall score 90/100):
"Charlie teaches kids how to produce enough water to survive in the
desert using only a water bottle, a large piece of clear plastic and a
small stone. Thankfully, it does not involve recycling urine."

THE QUESTION OF GOD: SIGMUND FREUD AND C.S. LEWIS (reviewed by David
Johnson, overall score 88/100):
"Both Freud and Lewis receive equal time, so there is never any sense of
tilt or bias in the narrative. What's on display is their lives and
their musings; the editorializing comes during the discussion portions
of the program, which address the major issues that belief (or
nonbelief) present: a human moral code, grief and suffering, and so on."

THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SERIES (reviewed by Joel
Pearce, overall score 86/100):
"Going from its production year, The Wind in the Willows was probably
showing on television when I was young, but I somehow missed it amongst
episodes of Inspector Gadget and He-Man. In retrospect, I think my time
could have been better spent. The Wind in the Willows looks and feels
somewhat dated now, but it still has a lot to offer both children and
adults who watch shows with them."

WORLD POKER TOUR: SEASON TWO (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall
score 87/100):
"With poker, not only can anyone grab a deck and start up a game with
their friends, but almost all the tournaments featured on World Poker
Tour are open to the public. If you want to pony up the entrance fee,
then you (yes, you!) could find yourself rubbing elbows beside poker
greats like T.J. Cloutier, Johnny Chan, and Phil Hellmuth Jr., and
experience the thrill of having them take every single dime you own."
