Default What is the POINT of mini-DVD?

This is a DVD file burned onto a CD.
But what is the point? A DVD disc (-r/+r)
is now almost as cheap as a CD. So why
would you want a disc that you can only
record 15m on, unless you compress the files
and reduce the quality? What is the point
of mini-DVD??

==============================
It is a 3" DVD, not a CD.

Nnnnnoooo, it's a little 3" "single" disk that explains that little
depression in the middle of your disk tray, or in the slot of a Sony PSP...

<sigh>

....I'm sorry, what was your question again?

Here's the explaination I worked off. Unfortunately, it
didn't say anything about the media being smaller.
In that case, I STILL don't understand the point of it
if they are using CD media instead of using a smaller
DVD media.

From:
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/ar...t_minidvd.html

MiniDVD is an unofficial format which basically allows you to have DVD
content (complete with interactivity) on a CD media. Of course, this
means that you'll only have a limited amount of video per CD (around
15 minutes of DVD quality video), but may be perfect for your DVD
trailer collection or DVD music videos. You can also choose to
downgrade the quality by decreasing the resolution/bitrate, and hence
increase the amount of video per CD. And with increasing popularity,
some new standalone DVD players will also now support this format
(please refer to the "How to playback MiniDVDs" section for more
information).

Some large Corporations use them as hand outs at staff training programs -
generally 10 minutes is enough. They are a niche market instrument.

Very confusing isn't it? Two differeing formats, both known by the
same name. Perhaps it is time to start using the alternative name of
cDVD to indicate DVD burned onto a CD, as suggested in a couple of the
sites I have visited. (Or 3" DVD for the smaller DVDs.)

it really would help if at least once in a while you would spend a
moment to (a) think, and (b) research what the hell you are talking
about instead of simply ranting and raging about a single (generally
out-dated) item you happened to finally come across.

for mini-DVD cameras! It allows the cameras to be much smaller.
