Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of CELLULAR, HOOSIERS: COLLECTOR'S
EDITION, HOWARDS END, LA DOLCE VITA, and PICCADILLY:

CELLULAR (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 89/100):
"Cellular, like 1994's Speed, is that rare dopey movie done right."

HOOSIERS: COLLECTOR'S EDITION (reviewed by David Johnson, overall
score 90/100):
"On the 'makes grown men cry' spectrum, Hoosiers is a notch above Rudy
and a hair below Field of Dreams."

HOWARDS END (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 99/100):
"Finally available on DVD, this remarkable film has received a new
visual transfer and a substantial array of extras. Most important,
though, is that this is a film of lasting power and relevance, truly one
of Merchant Ivory's greatest achievements."

LA DOLCE VITA (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 90/100):
"I don't know what more can be said about Anita Ekberg's luminous
portrayal of the peak of femininity; if you are a heterosexual male and
you don't long for her at all after beholding her flawless face, the
conniving sway of her hips and tantalizing breasts, her cascade of
golden hair...then you are the sort of man who is impervious to titles
like 'Miss Sweden' and I do not understand you."

PICCADILLY (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 95/100):
"While it might seem a stretch for film critics to read politics into
some films (and I know I have tried your patience as readers more than
once on this account), it is impossible to discuss Piccadilly without
considering its sociological subtext. It is there because Anna May Wong
fought to put it there. The filmmakers around her might have thought,
'Here is a pretty Chinese girl. She would be perfect as a slave or a
maid.' Anna May Wong was thinking, 'How can I be a Chinese woman on a
movie screen?'"
