Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS, FLIGHT OF THE
PHOENIX (2004), LIBELED LADY, LITTLE CAESAR, MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO:
CRITERION COLLECTION, SEDUCING DR. LEWIS, THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
MOVIE, STAGE DOOR, SWEET GEORGIA / COUNTRY HOOKER, TARZ AND JANE AND
CHEETA AND BOY / TARZUN AND THE VALLEY OF LUST, and TRICK BABY:

BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 88/100):
"There's an enjoyable sense of surreality to Bright Young Things. The
farcically exaggerated elements combine with some simply bizarre twists
to create the sense of a world in which anything might happen and
usually does."

FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX (2004) (reviewed by Erick Harper, overall
score 65/100):
"Perhaps the biggest compliment and biggest insult one can pay this
flick is that it comes as a surprise that Jerry Bruckheimer's name is
nowhere to be found; Flight of the Phoenix is precisely the sort of
slick, well-crafted, nice-looking but ultimately shallow picture for
which Bruckheimer is famous."

LIBELED LADY (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 90/100):
"Libeled Lady is like a comedy buffet. It features no less than four
great stars -- Spencer Tracy, Jean Harlow, William Powell, and Myrna Loy
-- and elements of all kinds of different comedy styles from the fast-
talking newspaper comedy to society comedy to slapstick to the kind of
marital muddle that prompts lines like 'She may be his wife, but she's
my fiancee!'"

LITTLE CAESAR (reviewed by Steve Evans, overall score 90/100):
"This must have been a vicarious thrill for Depression-era audiences
stricken by poverty. For the price of a movie ticket, they could
watch the diminutive Rico 'Little Caesar' Bandello rob and kill in
order to rise above his station, yet be safe in the knowledge that
comeuppance would be waiting in the final reel. During the 1930s and
well into the '40s, Warner Bros. specialized in these social
commentaries thinly disguised as pulp fiction. In a time of
hopelessness and despair, the characters in Little Caesar define
their self-worth in terms of wealth and influence -- both fleeting in
a world of duplicity and sudden death."

MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Brett Cullum,
overall score 96/100):
"Reeves handled this all quite well, and I always point to My Own
Private Idaho when people try to tell me Keanu can't act. He's
amazing, touching, and achingly beautiful in what I consider his best
role to date."

SEDUCING DR. LEWIS (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 91/100):
"There's something quintessentially French-Canadian about Seducing Dr.
Lewis (or at least, my vision of that stereotype), something that makes
me wish I was French Canadian. It betrays a love of language that's
evident even in the English subtitles, which capture the magic of the
original. It's sensual and sly, beginning and ending with orgasms and
cigarettes."

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall
score 80/100):
"This movie has not been made for me. I know this to be true. I don't
watch SpongeBob SquarePants on TV. I don't have any children who watch
SpongeBob SquarePants. I don't have any children, period. I don't really
even know any children. I myself am not a child. I have never been a
child. And yet I know that I have to find something to say about the 80
minutes I spent watching the film -- some sort of reaction to what I
have seen."

STAGE DOOR (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 97/100):
"Let's start with a few basic details: Katharine Hepburn. Ginger Rogers.
Adolphe Menjou. Lucille Ball. Ann Miller. Eve Arden. With that cast,
everything else is like icing. And what a lot of icing there is."

SWEET GEORGIA / COUNTRY HOOKER (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
score 78/100):
"Sweet Georgia takes the standard potboiler story of a nymphomaniac wife
burdened by a big fat sow of a husband and adds a lot of sweltering heat
and deserted Nevada locales just to prove once and for all that, if
you've seen one Harry Novak hillbilly sex farce, you've seen them all."

TARZ AND JANE AND CHEETA AND BOY / TARZUN AND THE VALLEY OF LUST
(reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 65/100):
"Unlike other attempts at eroticizing the classics, it would appear
that, when it comes to Tarzan of the Apes, inspiration is traded for
the insipid."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/tarzlust.php

TRICK BABY (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 87/100):
"A crackerjack crime drama that hinges less on the implied heroics of
Blues and Folks than it does the tense moral dilemma that lies at the
heart of the film, Trick Baby is certainly no scam on the audience's
pocketbook; this is a diamond in the rough worth considerably more than
the fake, back alley ice peddled on unsuspecting marks."
