Default Lifespan of DVD+R discs

Is there any information on the longevity
of these or other burnable DVD discs?
I've noticed that some programs offer
"deeper" burning options, which would seem
to mean that the depth of the pits burned into
the layer are deeper, allowing for less "errors?"
Just guessing here.
