I am curious as to why a .vob file is not played on a DVD player from a
regular CD. The obvious anwer is economics. But is there an underlying, technical reason why the DVD and CD (oxymoron?) formats are so different? The file structure is exactly the same as a high density CD (DVD). But the player ignorantly looks for MP3 files. I understand the "format" difference, but who should care? We're talking files here. Perhaps my player is too old (3 years)? Maybe the player might simply be stupid (feature) in not knowing what to do with the .vob file if found on a "CD", but it surely knows what to do when it finds it on a DVD! Perhaps data and media DVD (authored) formats are designed to prevent something bad happening? When I drop that same exact file (from CD) into PowerDVD on a PC it starts playing just fine. Will consumer stand-alone CD/DVD players ever be smart enough to play whatever is found on the media? -r Ron |

it can
check out miniDVD, not many dvd players can play miniDVD's miniDVD is basicly a DVD but on a CD-R(W) instead of a DVD disc. miniDVD is also sometimes called cDVD. A miniDVD does only fit about 15 minutes video on a 650 MB CD-R(W).
