Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE AMANDA SHOW: VOLUMES 1 AND 2,
THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS: TIMMY'S TOP WISHES, FAMILY GUY: THE FREAKIN' SWEET COLLECTION, FARSCAPE: SEASON 4, COLLECTION 4, GARGOYLES: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON, GREG THE BUNNY: THE COMPLETE SERIES, NORTH AND SOUTH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION, PROFILER: SEASON FOUR, RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY: THE COMPLETE SEASONS ONE AND TWO, SOUNDSTAGE PRESENTS MICHAEL MCDONALD: LIVE IN CONCERT, SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST: VOLUME TWO, STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES, SEASON THREE, TOP CAT: THE COMPLETE SERIES, and WORKING TRA$H: THE AMANDA SHOW: VOLUMES 1 AND 2 (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 82/100): "Held together completely by the performances of its tween and older cast, and often stumbling directly into something sublimely stupid and witty, this kid-vid cavalcade is a hilarious, cornball surprise." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/am...owvol1and2.php THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS: TIMMY'S TOP WISHES (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 85/100): "This is a smart, funny cartoon. While obviously geared toward the younger, shorter crowd, it still generates some hearty laughs for us adults, and is, for my money, much better than its more ubiquitous comrade, Mr. Squarepants' show." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/fa...dtopwishes.php FAMILY GUY: THE FREAKIN' SWEET COLLECTION (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 87/100): "It seems little was done to these episodes that hasn't been done before, and there's hardly a reason to double dip. The tempting part of this collection would be that you do get new commentaries, and the inclusion of the Bin Laden in the airport sequence in 'Road to Rhode Island' which was produced two full years before September 11th (spooky)." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/fa...eakinsweet.php FARSCAPE: SEASON 4, COLLECTION 4 (reviewed by Erick Harper, overall score 93/100): "Farscape: Season 4, Collection 4 accelerates the buildup to the end of the season and, ultimately, the series. These episodes are particularly dense with elements of the ongoing plot of the entire series, and newcomers may find some of the revelations baffling without a bit of explanation." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/farscapes4c4.php GARGOYLES: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 91/100): "Gargoyles was definitely not standard after-school Disney fare -- it was violent, brooding, cold, moody, and complex, with intertwining narratives, a dense theological and mythological background in character design and symbolism, and full of chest-pounding action." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gargoylesseason1.php GREG THE BUNNY: THE COMPLETE SERIES (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 93/100): "Even when considering the typical basement-level sophistication and maturity of a typical Fox television show, Greg The Bunny definitely pushes the debauchery envelope with amusing sexual innuendos and playful subtlety masquerading as filth...err, which is to say, puppet filth." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gregthebunny.php NORTH AND SOUTH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (reviewed by Lacey Worrell, overall score 84/100): "The scope of this collection is staggering. Clocking in at 1212 minutes now that the commercials have been cut out, its breadth is astonishing. It appears that no expense was spared in terms of the story, the filming, or even the sweeping score; North and South is a true epic in every sense of the word." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/northandsouth.php PROFILER: SEASON FOUR (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 59/100): "Grace's marital problems are revealed using the old writing adage 'tell, don't show.' Oh wait, isn't it supposed to be the other way around?" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/profilerseason4.php RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY: THE COMPLETE SEASONS ONE AND TWO (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 90/100): "Rumpole is probably one of the most beloved of twentieth-century British literary and television creations, an immediately recognizable character we love for both his talents and his flaws. There's something almost Dickensian about him: his short, stout figure, dressed in rumpled disarray; the jowly face that shows both kindness and shrewd intelligence; the characteristic flourishes like his oft- present cigar and his tendency to declaim literary quotations in round, resonant tones." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ru...ileys1and2.php SOUNDSTAGE PRESENTS MICHAEL MCDONALD: LIVE IN CONCERT (reviewed by David Ryan, overall score 96/100): "McDonald is absolutely not one of those aging rock stars working the county fair circuit, trying to pretend he's still got talent. His voice -- The Pipes -- is just as strong, sweet, and emotive as it was in 1976." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/so...gemcdonald.php SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST: VOLUME TWO (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall score 87/100): "Sadly, shows like 'Sharrock,' 'Late Show,' and the horrid live action retardation of 'Woody Allen's Fall Project' must have been funny to the show creators, but they're clearly the only ones laughing (and we're standing by laughing at them for it)." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/spaceghostvol2.php STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES, SEASON THREE (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 86/100): "We can ponder how Spock, Kirk, and McCoy represent logic, action, and empathy, or how their interpersonal struggles reveal their humanity, but the only thing we need to know is that it works. Their eyebrows may be pneumatically enhanced, and they may have overdeveloped vogue responses, but these three charming melodramatists make their scenes resonate." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/st...tosseason3.php TOP CAT: THE COMPLETE SERIES (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall score 89/100): "Unfortunately, Top Cat didn't translate its source material as well as The Flintstones before it. Whereas the stone-age capers of Fred and Barney where well-written and incorporated the ongoing clever use of prehistoric critters and inventive stone-and-stick tools to represent the modern conveniences of 1960, Top Cat had no reliable 'shtick' going for it." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/topcat.php WORKING TRA$H (reviewed by Aaron Bossig, overall score 80/100): "Working Tra$hmay not be an important piece of cinematic history, but it's commendable that one movie could stand witness to a great grouping of comedians, the rise of one star, the dignified retirement of another, and the baby steps of a major broadcast network."
