Default New protection?

Ok, what's happening here? This is the second time my 3 trusty DVD+/-RW
can't read a movie using DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15. The first movie was Resident
Evil: Apocalypse and now Shrink can't read The Forgotten.

Both movies play fine though when viewed. Is there a new protection in these
2 movies that makes Shrink chokes but is fine when viewed? Hmm, I find that
unlikely. What's going on here? My DVD+/-RWs are an NEC 4x, an NEC 8x and a
Lite-On 8x, all single layer. I've burned hundreds of DVDs with these babies
and they've been rock solid.

Maybe they are intentionally putting errors on DVDs now? They could
put an error in a file that would never be played by the DVD player,
but the file would be seen by programs trying to copy the DVD and
cause them to freeze. Though, if that were the case it would be easy
to bypass by just copying the movie files. Unlike copy protected
computer software that came on diskettes, I don't think you can make a
DVD player not play a DVD if the error isn't there. ??

Yep, it is a new type of protection.
Yep, it is easily defeated if you know where to look.

Sony should realize that just watching Rez Evil Apocalypse is copy
protection enough.

Try using 3.1.7 instead:

<http://www.dvdshrink.org/where.html>

I've had some errors reading with 3.2.0, too, but 3.1.7 solved the
problem somehow. I always keep an older version of any program until I
am confident that the new version is superior in every way.

PSL files were a very short lived stop gap solution that are now no longer
required.

The latest DVD Decrypter handles this protection transparently so use it
intstead.
