Default Request your input re: Carnivale

hello.

I am thinking of purchasing a box set of Carnivale
Season 1. (I don't have access to HBO and I don't want to get in
trouble by downloading an episode off the Net.)
Before I pay 100 bucks, however, I want to ask around a
bit. A few questions for those here who have seen it:
Does this show have as much depth to it as I have heard
it does? Do you think it is something a Babylon 5 fan would
appreciate? Does it have a decent story arc? Would you consider
Carnivale a worthwhile investment? Why or why not?

pls reply to the group
thanks in advance.

I'd recommend renting (the first disc, at least) to give you a flavor as
to whether you'll like it. The story actually hasn't gotten too deep
into an "arc". There's lots of character development threads aside from
the core story.

I find that the show is rewatchable as it's full of texture. If you
decide to purchase, the cost is about $70 online.

I got bored with it after a couple of episodes. I found it to be
slow-moving, very strange and hard to follow, but of course some people
like that sort of thing. In contrast, I thought Deadwood was a great
series and I would consider buying that.

I would rent it rather than buy it. It's not as entertaining as, say,
Twin Peaks. Is there a sequel to TP?
Carnivale is a slow moving, earthy looking program that's easy to
overlook. There's a lot of character development. I suppose it could
be thought of a soapie of the underworld. Things seem to move slowly
for an hour, and then something of great significance happens. I'm
still trying to fully comprehend all of the implications of the final
program of season 1.

I admit that this thing is slow and it will just not keep me interested long
enough to follow the story. But I still find myself flipping back to the
channel because of the cinematography. It is great looking and very proppy.

At first the show was great but as it goes along it gets weirder and
weirder

I heard a great quote "Carnivale is for those who thought Twin Peaks was too
accessible"

I enjoy it- vaguely reminds me of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked this Way
come"(book not the movie). Hope the continue the Templar subplot- Texas
Chainsaw houses full of inbred rednecks has gotten to be a rather boring
cliché though.

"> weirder
